HISTORY
Frank Isola, a visionary Rotarian, P.E. teacher, and later Principal of Orinda Intermediate School, started Orinda Field Day some 73 years ago as a way to bring together Orinda elementary school students for a friendly athletic competition in the days long before youth club sports existed.
Frank Isola Rotary Field Day has grown and evolved to become an institution, and an important part of Orinda life. Parents share pictures of Field Day accomplishments with their children, cherishing the memories that connect Orindans across generations. Over the years, former Field Day athletes have gone on to high school, college, professional, and even Olympic success. Frank Isola's name graces the gymnasium at OIS, and his legacy lives on in the annual event he started and which now bears his name. |
THE ROTARY CLUB OF ORINDA
|
Rotary is a global network of 1.4 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.
Chartered on April 20, 1949, the Rotary Club of Orinda has been serving the local and global communities for 70 years. In addition to the Frank Isola Field Day, the Rotary Club of Orinda sponsors student scholarships, the annual Spring Egg Hunt, Tom Fitch Fishing Day for the Oakland Boys' and Girls' Club, Opera in the Park and many other community events and projects. Our members include city officials, former mayors, local residents and business people who are active in Orinda civic and business life both inside and out of Rotary. We meet Wednesdays at 12:00 PM at the Orinda Community Center, 28 Orinda Way, Orinda. |
